Disaster Preparedness

In addition to relief agencies and programming, the evolution of disaster preparedness played a critical role in protecting lives in the face of natural disasters. Through educational film, public service announcements, and advocacy led by the National Weather Service, the state of Texas strove to encourage towns to create emergency response plans for hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. This included developing networks of agency support, evacuation drills, and safe ways to seek shelter in the event of a storm.
